THE FUND AT WORK

CD Capital was established in January 2000 in response to the rapid rise of blighted properties across New Orleans. At the time, more than 35,000 properties were identified as distressed.

Community development bankers created CD Capital to serve as a financing mechanism for developers working to rehabilitate abandoned properties.

Key milestones:

  • 2001: Secured $375,000 in investment capital from local banking partners

  • 2002: Secured matching funds from the U.S. Treasury’s CDFI Fund

  • Expanded loan pool to $1.3 million with support from additional banks and Fannie Mae

  • Today: Loan pool stands at $1.68 million

Since inception, CD Capital has financed projects resulting in more than 1,500 affordable housing units.
